Lima, Peru, December 7, 2021. — Earth and Being presented its 2020-2021 achievements and projects and granted special recognition to its outstanding social Eco-Warriors, Eco-Ambassadors, Eco-influencers and Eco-entrepreneurs, at a press conference held at La Moneda, Training and Culture Center in the Lima district of Miraflores.
The event was attended by the mayor of San Borja, Alberto Tejada; the mayor of Surquillo, Giancarlo Casassa; Representatives of the Mayor’s Office of Surco and the Regional Government of Callao who were among the winners. As well as personalities such as former minister and former mayor Luisa María Cuculiza; the CNN Hero, Doctor Ricardo Pun and former congresswoman Karla Schaefer; artists such as Julie Freundt, Carlos Álvarez, influencers such as the YouTuber ¨Gringasho¨ Clayton Thomas, among other ¨ecowarriors¨ who carry out social and environmental work who were recognized in an emotional ceremony.
The Earth and Being , whose president is Erika Schaefer, was founded in 2007 with the purpose of promoting care for the environment and improving the quality of life of people in a state of vulnerability, through eco-social projects and thanks to the “Recycling I go” program, which consists of collecting plastic caps to recycle them; and with the proceeds, buy orthopedic devices for people with special abilities and with low economic resources.
To date, more than 2,000 tons of plastic caps have been removed from the environment in our country (plastic caps take 500 years to disappear!), improving Peru’s carbon footprint by several thousand kilos less of carbon dioxide and thus also protecting our biodiversity. With this, Earth and Being has been able to donate more than 2,000 orthopedic devices to people with special abilities, among other social good tasks.
